A few weks ago we visited New York City.  Since my wife and I both grew up there, we did a little exploring and went to the Transit Museum in Brooklyn.  The museum is really a converted subway station that was closed many years ago.  It opened in 1976 for the bicentennial celebration.  Anyway, this fine gentlemen in the token booth from the 1940s posed for this snapshot as we entered.  The museum was fantastic and, especially for those who have lived or worked in the city, a worthwhile trip.

I posted several pictures from our trip to Bosque Del Apache Federal Wildlife Sanctuary several months ago. In reviewing some of the pictures, I discovered this one. I like it a lot and should have posted with the others.

Let’s face it, New Jersey does not bring up thoughts of peaceful villages or spacious rolling farmlands. In fact, Newark brings up just the opposite. This picture was taken in April in Branchbrrok Park which is near the western border of Newark. According to the literature, there are more cherry trees here than in the mall in Washington D.C. We were there right at the peak of the season.

A Quiet Part Of Town

I was in Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show last week. It was a mad house with about 120,000 people attending. Everything was overcrowded, except for the mass transit system. This picture was taken directly across from the convention center and no one was in the way. I saw this bus stop with a translucent image with the afternoon sun and had to shoot it. I think it came out fairly well.

Flying Cranes at Bosque del Apache

Yes, another Christmas in Basque Del Apache in New Mexico. This is a federal wildlife refuge that is open all year round. It is a wonderful place to visit and see the birds and other wildlife.

About 10,000 Greater Cranes migrated from northern U.S and Alaska this year. Compare that with the 17 cranes that visited the refuge when it opened in 1939. Cranes are beautiful birds to observe and put on great “shows” as they fly in and out. Below is another shot I took last week. It is an interesting abstract of a Crane flying off from the group.

Based on a comment from a great friend of mine, Richard Haber, I’m including one other shot of Cranes flying in or landing. This shot was a matter of luck, but I’m glad it happened to me.

Emeril’s New Orleans, A Look At The Kitchen

We recently visited New Orleans for a wedding. We got there on late Friday afternoon and walked around the Warehouse District looking for a place to eat. When we saw the sign for Emerils’s, we thought we would try to get a table for two. When we asked the host for a table, he said “no table, but I can seat you overlooking the kitchen”. Perfect, was our reaction and I took many pictures of the very busy kitchen.

P.S. The food and service were excellent.

It was a fascinating experience seeing how the food was prepared. When some larger tables ordered, the production mode was in full swing.

It was a beautiful Christmas Day in Basque del Apache in New Mexico. This is a federal wildlife refuge that is open all year round. We have been there since and will, no doubt, go again. It is a wonderful place to visit and see the birds and other wildlife.
